I love the Golden Retriever comparison because I have a golden😊 This has helped me realize what my limiting beliefs are and I will be doing this exercise tonight.
For limiting belief 1 (it's too late to do x, it takes too long), a big reframe for me is that the time will pass anyways. You're going to age regardless; the question is at the end of those three years are you going to have something to show for it?
This is so great and useful. I did a similar exercise with a coach once and her thing was to counteract the limiting beliefs you had to phrase it as “Because I know ________, I will/ can________. Also my neighbors have a white golden retriever and yes it’s full of joy!😂
Teaching English overseas is my NUMBER ONE PIECE OF ADVICE for people we meet, who want to get out of the rut, shitty job, or financial f@ckery of their lives. Hanoi is full of foreign English teachers and it’s where I met my partner, while he was teaching English. You know it’s funny, the BIGGEST group of expats here are South Africans. Bizarre right? But it’s because WORD HAS SPREAD in communities there, and that limiting belief and cultural norm has been smashed. Want to earn an actual living wage (which is very very tough in SA)? Go to Vietnam! You should see the lives people are living here. It’s incredible. It’s just one option, but it’s a good one. And I LOVE meeting people who’ve said f@ck that to the status quo.
Also, “next moment of joy please” is definitely the way to live. Loved this article, Ian. 🧡
This means a lot Maggie. Thank you for reading and sharing and the kind words. I spent a few weeks in Vietnam 12ish years ago and I would never have expected you to say South Africans are a large group there. That’s fascinating. Onto to more destroying of cultural norms. 👍😊
